THIS NEWS FROM APPLE WILL STUN GOOGLE: IOS App prices on App Store now start as low as Rs.10

Apple this week made some pricing changes on the App Store, which will see apps cost more in certain countries. It also announced pricing tiers for certain countries, which will help developers price their apps lower, 9To5Mac reports.

The second part of the announcement is the interesting bit, as it concerns us Indian users. Till now the cheapest app found on the Indian App Store was equivalent to $0.99, which was Rs 60. This price was periodically revised depending upon the exchange rate, and was shown on the Pricing Matrix in iTunes Connect.

With the latest price revision however, Apple has introduced two low-cost pricing tiers — Alternate Tier A and Alternate Tier B. These pricing tiers have been introduced in countries like India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, and Turkey. Using these tiers developers can price their apps and in-app purchases lower than before. NDTVGadgets was the first to spot that app prices on the Indian App Store now started as low as Rs 10. This pricing is for Tier A, while developers have also opted for Rs 30 under the Tier B category.

As for other countries, the cheapest app now costs 5 Peso in Mexico, 1 Yuan in China, 3,000 Rupiah in Indonesia, 5 Rubles in Russia, 0.59 Lira in Turkey, and 3.99 Rand in South Africa. With such low prices, there is likely to be an increase in the uptake of paid apps in India, where Rs 60 for an app is still considered expensive.
